How to simplify a ratio
To simplify a ratio A:B, divide both values by their greatest common divisor (GCD). For example, 16:12 simplifies to 4:3 because the GCD of 16 and 12 is 4.
How to scale a ratio
Multiply (or divide) both values by the same factor. For example, scaling 4:3 by 2 gives 8:6, which simplifies back to 4:3.
How to solve a proportion
In a proportion A:B = C:D, you can solve for any missing value using cross-multiplication. For example, if A=2, B=3, C=4, then D = (B × C) ÷ A = (3 × 4) ÷ 2 = 6.
