How to calculate square footage
Measure the length and width of the space in feet, then multiply them together.
Square footage = length (ft) × width (ft)
For example, a room that is 12 ft long and 10 ft wide has a square footage of 12 × 10 = 120 sq ft.
How to calculate square footage from inches
If your measurements are in inches, divide each by 12 to convert to feet before multiplying. For example, 144 inches × 120 inches = 12 ft × 10 ft = 120 sq ft.
How to calculate square footage of a house
Measure each room separately and add the results together. Only include finished, liveable space — exclude garages, unfinished basements, and exterior walls. Use the "Add another room" button above to total multiple rooms at once.
Square feet to square metres
To convert square feet to square metres, multiply by 0.0929. For example, 120 sq ft × 0.0929 = 11.15 m².
