What is a SERP snippet?
A SERP snippet is the block of text Google and other search engines show for your page in search results. It typically shows three things: the title tag, the URL, and the meta description. Your snippet is often the first impression users have of your page — a well-written snippet can significantly improve click-through rate (CTR) even without a ranking change.
SERP snippet preview tool
Preview your page title and meta description in a Google-style snippet before publishing. The preview is approximate (real SERPs vary by device, query, and personalization, and Google may rewrite titles or descriptions), but it’s a fast way to catch metadata that’s too short, too long, or unclear.
How to use
- Enter your page title, meta description, and URL.
- Check the character count indicators — red means too long, orange means too short.
- Adjust until the preview looks clean and the key message fits within the snippet.
- Copy the final title and description into your CMS or HTML
<head>.
Title tag guidelines
- Aim for 30–60 characters — Google typically truncates at around 60 characters
- Put the primary keyword near the beginning
- Include your brand name if it fits, usually at the end
- Avoid keyword stuffing — write for humans first
Meta description guidelines
- Aim for 70–160 characters — longer descriptions get truncated on most devices
- Summarize what the page is about and what the user gains by clicking
- Include a natural mention of the target keyword (Google bolds matching words)
- Treat it like a call to action: why should the user click your result over others?
Notes
- Google may rewrite your title or description if it thinks its version is more relevant
- Pixel width (not character count) is the real constraint — wider characters (W, M) truncate sooner
- Mobile SERPs often show shorter snippets than desktop
